Value Of An Education Is More Than A Name; It’s A Passion

The odds of children going to college increase when their parents go to college. That is the legacy and financial message everyone should pass onto their children, says Inemer.

David Inemer has gone far, but freely admits he had help getting there.  The founder of Value of an Education Foundation, a 501c3 located in Canyon Country, is surprisingly frank about his earlier years. “I wasn’t always the best student growing up in Brooklyn, and I had no one to blame but myself,” says Inemer.  “I didn’t see that value of an education until later.”

‘Later’ for Inemer turned out to be Moorpark, a junior college here in California, where two coaches took an interest in him and provided the motivation that turned his life around outside of the sports arena.  The key, said Inemer, was the willingness to make an effort. “My coaches saw that I really wanted to better myself and they took an interest in me.  One coach taught me discipline, and the other coach taught me how to use that discipline in other parts of my life outside of sports.”

Inemer has the facts from the latest U.S. Census to back up his education push.  “The person with an Associates degree on average is going to make $600,000 more in his work life than the person with a high school diploma.  But when you jump to a Master’s degree, you are talking about almost 2 million dollars more than a high school diploma over your work life – serious money,” states Inemer.

You have to see further than tomorrow to help realize your dream, according to Inemer. “When someone takes $20 of your money out of your hand, you are ready to fight them. But you sit quietly and let someone take your education from you as they act up, running their mouth and making noise in your classroom.”

“What you don’t realize,” continues Inemer, “is you are actually losing a lot more than $20. With the difference between having a high school diploma and an Associates degree as much as $600,000 over your work life, that’s actually a bunch of $20 situations that you are losing out on, and all without a fight.”

Everyone wants nice things and security for their family, and education is the path, says Inemer.  Too many students are dropping out of school and many more are under-performing in school. The ‘skill to learn’, says Inemer, is the skill you need to advance yourself, be it college or a trade school. “75 years ago you learned one skill and it supported you your whole life. Chances are the job my son will have 10 years from now hasn’t been created yet!”

David Inemer is speaking at Saugus High School at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 19th in the Multipurpose Room.  The speech is free to the public.  Inemer is available for motivational presentations to schools, community groups and teams.  He can be reached via email here, or at the company website here.
