On June 15, the Governing Board selected Lease-Leaseback contracts to be discussed as a delivery method for bringing Castaic High School into fruition.
The Lease-Leaseback procedure consists of the school district leasing a site for a facilities project to a lessee-contractor before the lessee-contractor then constructs facilities in accordance with the terms set forth in the construction agreement.
During construction of the facility, the lessee-contractor would then sublease the project site back to the school district. Once the project is completed, the lease and sublease terminate after payment of the district to the lessee-contractor and the property and facilities then fully belongs to the school district.
The construction project for Castaic High School have been in the works for over a decade, but after changes in locations and failed permits continued to push the groundbreaking date.
