Diego Lino is going into eighth grade at Castaic Middle School this fall, and plans to be part of Castaic High School’s very first freshman class.

Lino said of his experience in junior high so far, “I think middle school is a good opportunity for children of my age to start developing their own personalities and who they want to become in the future.”

Lino’s future class of 400 freshmen students are set to be the only ones on campus in 2019, with a new freshmen class added each year until all four grades — estimated to include about 2,400 students — are present at Castaic High School.

Because Castaic Elementary School’s mascot is a cougar cub and Castaic Middle School’s mascot is an adult cougar, Lino noted he’s hoping for a change in Castaic High School’s mascot, which has yet to be announced.

The Hart School District and developers of Castaic High School are planning to host an event Friday from 8-10 a.m. celebrating the one-year countdown to the school’s highly anticipated grand opening.
