On Tuesday, March 27, the Golden Oak Adult School will host their second annual open house, where they will celebrate 70 years of educating adults in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“It’ll be a very eventful night,” said Armando Mendoza, Interim School Office Manager for Golden Oak.
The open house will feature food, music, and a silent auction held by La Quinta Inn, according to Mendoza.
Guests will be able to learn how Golden Oak and adult education benefit the Santa Clarita Valley, as well explore programs, meet teachers and students, learn about volunteer and mentoring opportunities, and sign up for classes.
In the past, the guest list has included members of the William S. Hart School Board and staff from College of the Canyons.
The mission of the Golden Oak Adult School is, “to meet the educational needs of the community by empowering learners with academic, career, and technological skills, preparing them for post-secondary education, today’s changing workforce, and civic and community involvement,” according to the school’s website.
“It’s a great option for folks who are looking for a change at a low cost,” said Dave Caldwell, Public Relations Officer for the William S. Hart School District.
One thing that sets Golden Oak apart from other schools is its emphasis on community outreach, according to Dr. Mariane Doyle, Director of Career Technical and Adult Education for the William S. Hart School District.
“We are focused on being central to community,” said Dr. Doyle. “One of our focuses is really pointed toward community engagement.”
Past students of Golden Oak will also be at the open house, answering questions and telling their stories of success, according to Mendoza.
The open house will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Golden Oak Adult School, located at 23201 Dalbey Drive.
While walk-ins are invited, Golden Oak officials encourage guests RSVP here so that they can provide enough food for everyone.
