On the evening of May 23, the 2018 class of graduating seniors from William S. Hart High School were honored and officially graduated from high school.

The brilliant red or black robes of the several hundred graduating students flickered against the sun as they walked along the College of the Canyons stadium grounds to their seats.

Over 100 graduates, who were wearing red robes, were recognized for their academic excellence, with a G.P.A. at or above a 4.0.

The school also paid tribute to 120 of their junior students, who sat alongside the graduating class, for their likewise academic accomplishments.

All those in attendance were welcomed by student speaker Mitchell Gordon, who shared how one student, Collin Gore, a college-bound recent Hart graduate who was killed in a July 2017 car-crash, impacted the last year for everyone at the school.

“Collin is one that defined this school year and our lives as a whole,” Gordon said.

Gordon was followed by Alexandria Gillespie, who admitted that high school was more fun than many movies depict. Both students graduated with honors.

The commencement ceremony also featured the performance of a talented handful of student graduates who performed a musical rendition of “I’ve Lived” by One Republic. The song was performed and sung by the following students: Katherine Macri, Gianna Campa, Gizelle Hernandez, Robert Good, Tyler Heid, Nicolas Menzano, Mason Todd and Jacob West.

Finally, after Victoria Engbrecht, superintendent for the William S. Hart Union High School District, presented the class of 2018, diplomas were awarded, and the students moved the tassels on their caps from right to left, signifying that they had finally graduated from Hart High School.
