Dan Sterkel, general manager of Nissan of Valencia, gave away a Nissan Versa from his dealership to Taylor Morrison, a junior at Valencia who touts an impressive attendance record.
Each William S Hart Union High School District junior or senior who maintained at least a 97 percent attendance record, a 2.0 GPA and had no expulsions or suspensions was eligible for the car giveaway.
After two William S. Hart Union High School students, a junior at Canyon High and Saugus High, respectively, won Dodgers baseball tickets awarded by former Dodgers shortstop Bill Russell, the names of four finalists were drawn at random.
Three of the students each received a $1,000 scholarship and the fourth, Morrison, received the new Versa.
The Hart district is comprised of more than 22,000 public junior high and high school students.
The district’s six largest high schools also had a drumline competition, which took place before the drawing at College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium.
