The students will now be playing the same quality drumheads endorsed by leading Timpanists like Jauvon Gilliam, who was named principal timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra in 2009 at age 29.

Belli was inspired by the dedication of the staff and enthusiasm of the students after participating in the Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundations’ Principal for a Day at Rancho Pico Jr. High in October.

During the visit, the intermediate band played and touched Belli’s heart, according to officials.

“I’m confident the kids in the band will do very well in their future endeavors due to the discipline and teamwork they are learning through their director, Mrs. Stoffel,” Belli said. “I hope this surprise gift will be an encouragement.”

Remo, Inc. has devoted decades of time and resources to understand the connection between music making and health. Alyssa Janney of Remo, Inc. has been on the front lines of this quest for the last 13 years.

“Anytime we can connect children with a habit that has the potential to vastly improve the quality of their lives, we’re all about that at Remo,” she said. “That is our purpose.”

Rancho Pico Jr. High strives to provide experiences, like the band, that support the high academic standards of the William S. Hart School District and life skills that will pave the way to success in the life of every student, said Principal Erum Jones.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
