County Board of Supervisors approves extra funding for District Attorney.

To address the increased reports of abuse and neglect of the elderly, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $180,000 State grants for the District Attorney’s Elder Abuse Unit to prevent and respond to such cases, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

“This action will enhance and improve our efforts to provide vital services to prevent and prosecute crimes against our Los Angeles County seniors,” said Supervisor Antonovich.  

With over 1 million seniors, Los Angeles County is home to the nation’s largest population of persons age 65 or older.  As this population has increased, so have reported incidents of elder abuse.  In 2005, there were 21,950 reported cases of abuse.  The most common forms of reported elder abuse are: physical neglect, mental abuse, financial and physical abuse.
