The Santa Clarita Valley Mayors Committee for Employment of Individuals with Disabilities Annual General Membership Meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12.
The keynote speaker will be Tom Iland. Iland, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, is a California State University Northridge graduate and lead intern at Disney.
“Our purpose as an organization is to inform employers as to benefits of employing people with disabilities,” said committee board member and principle of the Golden Oak Adult School, Ron Rudzinski. “Tom has dealt with challenges that he has experienced living with the diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome, he will talk about his life and different things he has learned.”
Iland, who is working towards getting his C.P.A., is a property tax analyst and manages a group of six other interns. He monitors the intern’s progress as they complete nearly 500 returns for Disney locations all over the United States.
“During the speech I be talking about what the hiring process is like and the pros and cons of self disclosure before and after getting a position so the applicants can have the best job experience possible,” said Iland.
The Embracing Diversity in the Workplace event will be held at the Activities Center located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway.
