Emergency Expo Coming Next Weekend!

Do thoughts of earthquakes, fires and floods leave you feeling uncertain about emergency preparedness?  The City of Santa Clarita’s 14th Annual Emergency Expo will help you to prepare for medical and natural emergencies that may arise without warning. The Emergency Expo will take place on April 16, 2005 at Saugus Speedway, located at 22500 Soledad Canyon Road, from the hours of 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Special Needs family admission begins at 9:00 AM.

“The Emergency Expo is a ‘one stop shop’ for answering questions regarding safe practices in an emergency situation,” said Donna Nuzzi, City of Santa Clarita Emergency Services Supervisor. “What’s great about the Emergency Expo is the wealth of knowledge that is accessible to educate our community on emergency preparation, anywhere from backyard swim safety to preparing for a devastating natural disaster.”

This year’s Emergency Expo will feature activities such as Railroad Crossing safety, Automated External Defibrillator demonstrations, First Aid demonstrations, Bicycle Safety and much more.

Also included this year, due to overwhelming popularity at past events, is free fingerprinting for kids. In addition, the Emergency Expo will feature the Mountain Lion Foundation, who will discuss and demonstrate Hiking Safety techniques and the Do’s and Don’ts when faced with a wild animal . . . an important safety tip beneficial for those who enjoy hiking.

“In addition to all of the emergency information that will be available for our community, the Transit Division of the City of Santa Clarita is excited to reveal a new program called “Rack n’ Roll, Bikes on Buses” by raffling off a new bike,” said Bob Murphy, City of Santa Clarita Transportation Manager. “In August, our community will notice the ability for Santa Clarita Transit buses to accommodate bikes with 2 or 3 available bike racks. The program is a great way to encourage our community to utilize our public transportation system in conjunction with personal travel. A bicycle commuter, or recreational cyclist, can travel by bus when they get caught in a downpour, stranded with a flat, or just too tired to pedal. No extra cost to board the bike! ”

The Emergency Expo is free of admission charges, and food, fun and games will be offered. In addition, take the opportunity to enter to win a new bike (drawing will be held at 1:00 PM, must be present to win), as well as safety helmets, great for bike riding, skateboard or roller skating.
