Santa Clarita's Fourth of July parade attracts more than 25,000 spectators cheering 3,000-plus participants down the streets of Old Town Newhall each year.  Musical groups, civic organizations, equestrian units and local businesses are expected to comprise this year's parade line-up. The Santa Clarita Valley Parade Committee, a group of dedicated civic-minded volunteers, works each year to bring local residents what they believe is the best hometown parade in the country.

"There's nothing that compares to the pride and patriotism expressed during our city's Fourth of July parade," said Leon Worden, Santa Clarita Valley Parade Committee chairman.  "Both spectators and participants enjoy the spectacle of red, white and blue."

'Sights and Sounds of Santa Clarita' is this year's parade theme.  Grand marshal will be announced in mid-June; parade winners will be announced following the parade.

"There are two things we can count on each year," offered Worden, "First, the parade will always be on July 4 and, second, it will always be hot on that day."

Parade begins at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, July 4 with street closures by 8:30 a.m.  Early arrival is strongly recommended for the best choice of viewing locations.  Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and plenty of sunscreen, but leave the silly string and water toys at home.  Strict enforcement will be in effect for a city ordinance prohibiting the use of silly string and all other projectile devices along the parade route.

Announcing stations along the route will offer spectators play-by-play action as floats, cyclists, autos, musicians, dignitaries, beauty queens, equestrian and marching brigades make their way along Main Street (formerly San Fernando Road) from Hart Park, turning west on Lyons Avenue before proceeding north along Orchard Village Road.  The parade ends adjacent to Placerita Junior High School.  For parade information or to volunteer visit www.scvparade.com.
