SCV Fishing Report April 3rd: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

It’s time for the weekly KHTS-120AM fishing report:

Freswater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake….The largemouth and smallmouth bass bite kicked in this past week.  The bass are in the 2 foot  to 25 foot depth; try the Coves. The upper lake received a DFG trout plant this past week. There’s also some good catfishin’ in the 80 foot depth near the Buoy Line.

2)  Pyramid Lake….There’s a very good striped bass bite goin’ on, for fish in the 1 to 3 pound size. Try the deeper water where the bait schools are located.  Catfish (up to ten pounds) are biting well in the deeper areas of the Coves.  Good trout fishing.  Largemouth bass are moving into the shallower water of 20 feet or less.

3)  Lake Piru….Very good bass action as fish move into the shallow water to spawn. Fish up to 6 pounds are biting in depths of 30 feet or less.  The crappie bite has also picked up this past week.
4)  Lake Cachuma….Good trout fishing for trollers; try Santa Cruz Bay.  Also a few catfish and crappie are biting.  This week and next week will see two DFG trout plants.  The lake is getting ready for the Trout Derby on 4/14 and 4/15.

Saltwater Report:

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
Windy conditions and rough seas kept most of the party boats at the dock this weekend.  MarinaDelRey had close to limits of sculpin and also a few rockish while anchored close to shore and out of the wind.  The boats will be going for rockfish again as the conditions become calm again.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
Windy, rough conditions made fishing difficult.  Believe it or not….on April 7th Salmon Season opens in southern California!  It only lasts 3 weeks, and the water is cold enough for a very good bite!  The boats that got out this past week did score on limits of rockfish and plenty of lings for the overnight boats.  The half day and 3/4 day boats got half limits or better with a few sculpin and sanddabs.

…..that’s all for this week.  This is Halibut Hal signing off for KHTS-1220Am, your Hometown Station.
