Here’s this week’s fresh and saltwater fishing report for KHTS AM-1220:

 

Freshwater Report:

1)  Castaic Lake…Striper fishing continues at a good clip since the 12/6 trout plant.  Try fishing near the Marina or Necktie Canyon and toss a swimbait, jig, or kastmaster for best results.  Slow fishing for bass.

2)  Pyramid Lake…Catfishing remains good on cut mackerel baits, sardines or nightcrawlers.  Striped bass fishing is still happening for anglers tossing imitation trout lures.  Crappie are biting in areas where there are structures; try mealworms, or small jigs tipped with grubs.

3)  Lake Piru…A few bass are still biting.  The water level continues to rise, improving the habitat for the fish.  Crappie are biting for anglers finding areas of structures; small jigs tipped with mealworms are working best.

4)  Lake Cachuma…On Thursday a 4,000 pound trout plant will take place.  Right now, trolling with rapalas or kastmasters near the Dam or Cachuma Bay is a good way to get a few trout in the boat.  Bass fishing is slow. 

 

Saltwater Report: 
SPECIAL NOTE: A 445 pound yellowfin tuna was caught and weighed in on the “Excel” a long range boat from San Diego; it is the largest yellowfin tuna ever caught!  The lucky angler is John Petruescu…meanwhile in our local “wimpy fish” waters, here’s what’s happening:

 

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:

At 22nd Street Landing, the “San Pedro Special” with 13 anglers returned to the dock Monday with 18 sculpin, 51 red snapper, 41 rockfish, 31 sheephead, 9 whitefish, 16 sand bass, and 8 calico bass.  The “Gail Force” at Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach, went lobster hoop fishing on Sunday night.  The four hoopsters/anglers were rewarding with 18 lobsters up to 10 pounds!  Up the coast, the “Spitfire” returned Monday from a 3/4 day run with 20 anglers sacking 70 red snapper, 90 rockfish, 2 lingcod and 3 sheephead.

 

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:

At CISCO Landing, the “Mirage” returned Sunday from an overnight, outer island trip with a great catch for the 25 anglers on board; they caught 50 lingcod, 250 rockfish and 65 ocean whitefish!  The “Aloha Spirit” returned yesterday from its “lingcod special’ with limits of lings (52), 16 whitefish, 21 sheephead and lots of rockfish.  The “Pacific Eagle” from Ventura Sportfishing had 13 anglers connect with 96 rockfish, 5 lingcod, 6 whitefish, 2 sheephead and 1 mako shark.

 

Only three more weeks to fill up your freezer with rockfish and lings, so take a break from shopping and GO FISH!
