Halibut Hal here with this weeks fish reports for KHTS-1220AM:
Beginning with our local lakes, here’s the freshwater report:
1) Castaic Lake….Trout fishing remains decent, due to recent trout plants. The best locations continue to be the Main Ramp, West Ramp, Kong Island, and the Buoy Line. In addition, a few nice strippers up to ten pounds have been caught lately. All other species remain fair to slow.
2) Pyramid Lake….Fishing for small trout continues at a fair clip because of recent trout plants. Fair fishing for bass, bluegill, catfish and stripped bass.
3) Lake Piru….Slow fishing for everything here along with few anglers, as well.
4) Lake Cachuma….Good fishin for largemouth and smallmouth bass, and crappie. Also a good bite on trout up to three pounds, perhaps due to a recent trout plant. Try Harvey’s, Drake’s Cove, and E Point.
Saltwater Reports: This is the last week to load up on good eating rockfish and ling cod!

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey: Plenty of rockfish, sculpin, sheephead, and whitefish continue to be caught. More sand dabs and perch are showing up in the fish counts as the rockfish closure countdown begins. The “Slammer” from Redondo just had an amazing hoop net lobster and crab fest…. three anglers and one crew member brought in 26 lobster and 20 rock crabs!
Oxnard/Ventura Landings: Quite a few ling cod continue to be caught along with many red snapper, bocaccio, sculpin, ocean whitefish and sheephead. Limits and near limits are the rule. Lot’s of nice fillets.
I will be fishing on the “Coroloma” this Friday. That’s the spacious 3/4 day boat from Hook’s Landing in Oxnard. I’ll have an “on the boat” fish report for you next week. Until then, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
