SCV Fishing Report February 14th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

It’s time for Halibut Hal’s local lakes and also saltwater fishing reports:

Freshwater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake….Striped bass fishing slowed way down.  A few catfish are biting near the Buoy Line along with a stray striped bass.  Bass fishing is quiet along with bluegill, etc.
2)  Pyramid Lake….Fair to good trout fishing since last weeks trout plant.  The best place to try is the Marina area.  The Marina and Inlet areas are also still holding some 1-5 pound striped bass.  Everything else is pretty darn slow.
3)  Lake Piru….Nothing has changed since last week….more of the same!  Very slow for everything except for a few flurries of bass in the deeper water.  Very few anglers here.
4)  Lake Cachuma….Cooler water has slowed down the bass bite.  Try the deeper 25 – 40 foot depth.  Fair to good trout action while trolling.  The best trolling areas are Cachuma Bay, Santa Cruz Point and the Dam.  Slow for all other species.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
Live squid and sardines were in the bait recievers this past weekend.. The sculpin, sand bass, and calico bass fishing was very good, with many limits or near limits when the weather permitted.  There’s still plenty of sanddabs for anglers that wish to target them.  Several halibut continue to be taken for a few lucky anglers.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
S L O W fishin.  Very few anglers and few trips.  All the sanddabs you want plus some crabs, as well.  These landings will be very busy come March 1st when it will be “legal” to capture ling cod and rockfish once again.

….and that ends this weeks fishing report.  This is Halibut Hal reporting for your Hometown Station, KHTS 1220AM.
