It’s time for this weeks fishing report for local lake and saltwater enthusiasts:
Freshwater Report:
1) Castaic Lake….The largemouth bass bite really picked up this past week; and one lucky angler landed a nine pounder! There’s still an occasional stiped bass showing. Try the Coves and Kong Island. Slow for other species.
2) Pyramid Lake….Still some fair trout fishing. The best area remains the Marina. Also there’s a few striped bass being caught in the one to four pound size. Everything else is slow.
3) Lake Piru….Some bass are biting in the one to four pound class. But, other than that, it’s more of the same….. fishing , not catching situation.
4) Lake Cachuma….Trollers working the Santa Cruz Bay are still nabbing a few trout. Some large crappie to be had, as well. The bass bite has slowed since last week.
Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
Mostly full limits of tasty sculpin with a few bass to go with. There’s also plenty of lil sanddabs for anglers wanting to fish for them. Long Beach Sportfishing has been getting quite a few halibut lately for the “Pot O Gold” tournament.
Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
Landings up here are ready and excited about the opening of rockfish season on Thursday, March 1st! It will once again be legal to keep rockfish, lingcod, sheephead and ocean whitefish in a few days. This past week it was sanddabs and more sanddabs and few anglers. All that changes starting Thursday!
…..until next week, this is Halibut Hal signing off for KHTS-1220AM, your Hometown Station.
