SCV Fishing Report June 5th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

It’s time for the Tuesday fishing report for KHTS-1220AM:

Freshwater Report:

1)  Castaic Lake….There was lots of wind this past week; but the stripers were still biting in the deper water.  Most of them are in the 2-5 pound size.  For largemouth bass, Dry Gulch recently re-opened after the spawn….try there or Hawks Nest.  If you want catfish, try Kong Island or the Buoy Line.  Slow trout fishin’.

2)  Pyramid Lake….Good catfishing from shore; try the coves.  Quite a few black bass are still biting in shallow water of 5 – 15 feet; most of the bass are in the 2 – 4 pound size.  Trout fishing remains slow.

3)  Lake Piru….Crappie and bass are biting in the Narrows and Reasoner Cove.  There is also some bluegill and redear available for anglers to catch.  Everything else remains quiet.

4)  Lake Cachuma….Some catfish are biting in Creek Channels and shallow water.  The big news is an 8 pound trout was caught this past week in the Marina.  Bass continue to bite in early morning hours when the wind isn’t blowing.  Boat rentals are available here, in the Marina.

Saltwater Report:

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
It’s a cuda fest!  Wide open barracuda fishing for the Long Beach, San Pedro and L A Harbor fleet of boats.  Limits and near limits of cudas and improved bass fishing is happening, as well.  On Sunday, the “Outrider” from 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro landed 22 white seabass up to 30 pounds, along with an assortment of other fish.  Yesterday, on the half day boat, “New Del Mar’ from Marina Del Rey, with live squid for bait, 6 white seabass and 2 halibut up to 40 pounds were caught!…….yes, I said the half day boat……….  It’s looking good!!!

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
Monday’s trip on the “Mirage” from CISCO Landing brought back a 20 pound king salmon, 3 white seabass, 1 big halibut, some lingcod and lots of rockfish for anglers on that boat.  The “Aloha Spirit” has been on fire: on Saturday landed 20 white seabass up to 54 pounds!  On that same boat on Sunday, a 40 pound halibut was gaffed; then on Monday’s charter trip they went after rockfish limits for the group of pasengers and then nabbed a 30 pound and a 40 pound white seabass.  Now is a very good time to fish!!

…..’til next Tuesday, this is Halibut Hal signing off for your Hometown Station, KHTS-1220AM.
