SCV Fishing Report March 13th: Local Lakes and Saltwater Report

Here’s the latest KHTS1220AM fishing reports for local freshwater lakes and nearby saltwater landings:

Freshwater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake….  The largemouth and smallmouth bass bite is improving, as the fish move into the shallows to begin their spawn.  Some trout being caught near the West Ramp; since last week’s DFG plant.  Slow for stripers.
2)  Pyramid Lake….  Since last week’s DFG trout plant, the fishing has improved at a fair to good clip. The Marina area and the Inlet is the best location for trout as well as stripers in the 1 – 4 pound range.  Slow for all other species.
3)  Lake Piru….The deeper water is still having some flurries of bass up to 4 pounds.  Fishing remains slow for everything else here.
4)  Lake Cachuma….The bass bite has picked up here; since the fish are moving into the shallower water for spawning purposes.  Try trolling Cachuma Bay, Santa Cruz Bay or the Dam for trout up to 2 pounds.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
The Long Beach “Pot O Gold” halibut tournament wrapped up on Sunday.  The 25 top anglers have qualified for next weeks ‘fish-off’ with halibut that weighed between14 pounds and up to 37 pounds!… Congrats to all of them!  The “Slammer” at Redondo nabbed 22 lobster last night and 20 lobster on Sunday night for the 4 lucky anglers on those two trips.  The bulk of the fleet is catching mostly rockfish with some sculpin, sheephead and whitefish.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
The boats up here continue to make great catches of rockfish with lots of prized red snapper and chuckleheads in the mix.  The boats fishing the Channel Islands are nabbing near limits of quality lingcod, as well.  There is also some very good catches of large ocean whitefish as well as sheephead, sculpin and cabezon.

well, until next week….This is Halibut Hal reporting for KHTS-1220AM, your Hometown Station.
