SCV Fishing Report March 20th: Local Lakes and Saltwater Report

Halibut Hal reporting with this weeks fishing report for your Hometown Station, KHTS-1220AM:

Freshwater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake….The smallmouth and largemouth bass bite continues in the shallow water (15 feet or less) in both the upper and lower lakes.  Some trout are also biting since the last two DFG trout plants; try the Spillway or West Ramp.  Good catfishin near the Buoy Line for ‘whiskers’ in the 5 pound class.

2)  Pyramid Lake….Very good trout fishing since the last 2500 pound DFG trout plant.  Some largemouth bass are biting in the 20 foot depth or less; try Spanish Point and the Vaquero area.  Try the Coves in the deeper areas for catfish up to ten pounds.

3)  Lake Piru….Fishing remains very slow here. A few bass in the four pound range contine to be caught in the deeper water of the lake.

4)  Lake Cachuma….The bass continue to move into the shallower water to spawn; try the 5 to 20 foot depth.  There was a 4,000 pound DFG trout plant on 3/16.  Try trolling Arrowhead Island for trout up to 2 pounds.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
Because of this weekends bad weather….the Long Beach Sportfishing “Pot O Gold” halibut tournament fish-off has been rescheduled for 3/25.  The boats that did get out prior to the storm did very good on a mixed bag of rockfish and sculpin; with some incidental whitefish, and sheephead.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
Trips were cancelled over the weekend because of the weather.  However, during the week, the boats going out with lighter loads caught easy limits of rockfish and also a few lings in 180 feet or less.  A very happy angler fishing on Thursday, 3/16 on the “Island Spirit” at Ventura Sportfishing caught a real nice lingcod weighing 21 pounds!  There continues to be good catches of whitefish, sculpin and sheephead along with the rockfish.

…..and that’s it for this weeks fishing report.  Halibut Hal signing off for KHTS-1220AM.
