SCV Fishing Report March 6th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

Here’s the latest fishing reports for our local freshwater lakes, as well as the closest saltwater locales:

Freshwater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake…There’s a few striped bass showing still.  Some smallmouth bass are beginning to bite in the 30 foot depth.  For largemouth bass and crappie try the Lagoon in the PM.  Some catfish are biting near the Buoy Line.
2)  Pyramid Lake….Since the two latest DFG trout plants, the trout fishing is continuing at a fair to good clip.  Try the Marina area for the trout and perhaps a 1 – 4 pound striped bass.  Slow fishin for everything else.
3)  Lake Piru….There’s been some flurries of bass up to 4 pounds in the 20 – 30 foot depth.  But other than that, it’s a  slow situation here; with few anglers and few reports.
4)  Lake Cachuma….The bass bite has dropped off, since the fish have moved into the 25-40 foot depth. For trollers working the Santa Cruz Bay area or Cachuma Bay to the Dam….there’s still some trout to be had.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
On Monday, the boats from Redondo and MarinaDelRey had limits of rockfish and sculpin.  The rest of the fleet from San Pedro, L A Harbor, and Long Beach are also getting lots of rockfish, along with a few salmon grouper, red snapper and sheephead.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
The only sanddabs being caught here are for lingcod bait!  The “Pacific Dawn” from Ventura Sportfishing returned with full limits of lings, along with limits of quality rockfish fishing San Miguel Island. Lots of red snapper are in the counts for the whole fleet, with a bonus of ocean whitefish, sheephead, lingcod, cabezon and sculpin.

The Fred Hall Show begins 3/7 at the Long Beach Convention Center and ends on 3/11.  It’s always a great show!

….well, that’s all for now.  This is Halibut Hal reporting for your Hometown Station, KHTS-1220AM.
