SCV Fishing Report May 15th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

It’s time for the KHTS weekly fishing report:

Freshwater Report:

1)  Castaic Lake….The stripers are biting in several areas:  the Buoy Line, the Marina, Elizabeth Canyon and Dry Gulch.  For both species of trout and bass, try Hawk’s Nest.  Quite a few big largemouth bass (up to 10 pounds) are being caught at night around campsite B and C.  Try the Buoy Line for catfish.

2)  Pyramid Lake….There is still a good bass bite happening here in the shallow water areas. Catfish are biting in the Coves.  The deeper water by the Dam is holding both trout and school sized striped bass.

3)  Lake Piru….Lots of mondo sized crappie are being caught in the areas of Reasoner Cove and the Narrows.  Bluegill and redear are also biting; along with some bass in the shallow water areas all around the lake.

4)  Lake Cachuma….Try the deeper water by the Dam for trout, along with Mohawk or Harvey’s. For largemouth bass, try fishing early morning or late afternoon in 10 feet of water, or less.  For catfish and bluegill, try the shallow Coves.

Saltwater Report:

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
It’s springtime and that means barracuda!  On Monday, the “Tradition” from Redondo landed 26 log barracuda for only 4 anglers!  Meanwhile, the “Spitfire” from Marina Del Rey, this morning had 15 cudas up to 8 pounds and was still fishing at the time of this report.  The “Option” from Long Beach has been landing daily limits of white seabass and quite a few yellowtail for the past several days! There continues to be lots of rockfish and sculpin being caught, on the various boats, as well.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
On Saturday, the “Seabiscuit” from CISCO landing brought back 3 white seabass, 9 lingcod and 185 rockfish for 20 anglers on its overnight trip.  The market squid is showing up in larger quantities…..big scores of seabass, halibut and yellowtail should eventually follow them squid. Plenty of assorted rockfish, lingcod, ocean whitefish and sculpin are still biting for the fleet.

The weather has been nice and the water is warming………  So, go fishin’!
……………..well, that’s it for this week; this is Halibut Hal reporting for your Hometown Station, KHTS-1220AM.
