Halibut Hal reporting with this weeks local freshwater and saltwater fish reports for KHTS 1220AM.
Starting with our local lakes, here’s what’s biting:
1) Castaic Lake….Lots of boiling stripers and largemouth bass! Try the morning or afternoon bite. Also, a very good catfish bite this past week. Fair to good on the blegill and slower on the crappie.
2) Lake Pyramid….Stripers are still boiling in the early morning and late afternoons. Catfish and bluegill are biting good in the coves.
3) Lake Piru….Fair to good bite on the bluegill and bass in most coves. Slower on the crappie.
4) Lake Cachuma….Shad continue to move into the shallows. The bass (both largemouth and smallmouth) are suspended and intercepting them. It’s an ambush!
Good bluegill bite. The catfish bite has slowed.
Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
The hot bite is on the “Redondo Special”. On the Monday afternoon 1/2 day trip, 6 white seabass were caught! The rest of the boats/landings are catching mostly rockfish with an assortment of sculpin, calico and sand bass, ocean whitefish and sheephead.
Oxnard/Ventura Landings:Mostly a rockfish fest, with a smattering of ocean whitefish and calico bass. A few nice lingcod are being caught daily. Where are the white seabass, halibut and yellowtail?
I decided to cancel my “Mirage” trip leaving Sunday night (9/11), due to the absence of white seabass and halibut. I will reschedule when the bite is on again….. (hopefully SOON!).
……and that wraps up this weeks fish report. Halibut Hal signing off for KHTS 1220AM.
