SCV Fishing Report September 7th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

FishingReport-SidebarHalibut Hal backatcha with this weeks exciting KHTS 1220AM local freshwater and saltwater fishing reports.

Here’s what’s happening at our local lakes:
1)  Castaic Lake….Lots of surface boils this week from both stripers and largemouth bass!  Early morning and late afternoon are the best times.  Try the coves for catfish, bluegill and crappie.
2)  Lake Pyramid…The stripers are also boiling here!  These are mostly one to three pound fish.  Try the coves to catch bluegill and catfish.  There’s good bass action in twelve to thirty feet of water.
3)  Lake Piru….Fair to good fishing for all species (bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill), mainly in the coves.
4)  Lake Cachuma….The shad are moving even shallower than last week; and both smallmouth and largemouth bass are waiting to ambush them.  Bluegill are biting well.  Catfish and crappie fishing has slowed.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
The big news is the tuna bite for 1.5 day trips out of Long Beach and San Pedro.  The best bite has been on the “Toronado” out of Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach.  On Sunday, 71 bluefin tuna were caught and on Labor Day an additional 77 bluefin tuna were caught!  The other boats/landings are catching an assortment of rockfish, sand bass, and sculpin; with occasional lingcod and calico bass action.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
The overnight boats from Oxnard are scoring on the halibut and white seabass!  On Labor Day, the “Seabiscuit” got  twelve halibut up to 42 pounds, fouteen white seabass plus a 30 pound yellowtail!  The “Mirage” and “Pacific Islander”  are also doing well on these exotics.  The other boats fishing 1/2 day and 3/4 day trips are catching an assortment of rockfish, sculpin, calico and sand bass, sheephead, ocean whitefish, and a few lingcod in the mix.

……..and that does it for this weeks fish report.  Halibut Hal will be fishin on the “Mirage” next Monday and will report on that trip, as well as the local fish report.
