The property, an undeveloped 996-acre site located in the center of Santa Clarita, is a former munitions testing and manufacturing site with “contamination issues” that is currently being “cleaned up” under the supervision of the California Department of Toxic Substances, according to the Whittaker Bermite website.Residents Invited To Discuss Whittaker Bermite Property Cleanup

The Whittaker Bermite Citizens’ Advisory Group is hosting the meeting to discuss an alleged chemical runoff that is reportedly affecting the water supply, air and soil, according to a CAG news release.

“The project is a major challenge,” said a statement on the news release. “Chemicals originating from the property have migrated off the property and are being detected in the local water supply, as well as in the air and soil.”

The upcoming meeting will feature a presentation and discussion of the proposed cleanup of the water supply.

CAG holds three meetings per year to hear reports from the state agencies involved in the cleanup of the property, and meetings are open to all members of the community.
