An amount “not to exceed $75,000 in Specified Excess Funds” was approved for the project, which transforms part of the existing Heritage trail at Placerita Canyon State Park.
The project will relocate the existing Heritage trail entrance area, create Braille and interpretive signage, install safety railing and create “a panoramic relief of the natural area and miniature sculpture of the Oak of the Golden Dream,” Tuesday’s agenda said.
The Oak of the Golden Dream is the site of California’s original gold discovery in 1842, according to Placerita Canyon State Park officials.
The additional funds will cover design, project management and administration, as well as further renovation costs, according to Tuesday’s agenda.
On Aug. 19, 2014, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors awarded $28,500 for the Braille Trail Project, however, after the commencement of the project, the need for additional labor, materials and related costs were identified, according to Tuesday’s agenda.
The total project cost is estimated at $174,000, according to county officials.
