Castaic Lake Water Agency Awarded For Budget

Castaic Lake Water Agency officials were awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2014/15 budget by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

To receive the award, the budget document must be rated “proficient” in all four categories that demonstrate how well the budget serves as a (1) policy document, (2) financial plan, (3) operations guide and (4) communications device.

The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

Valerie Pryor, Administrative Services Manager for the Castaic Lake Water Agency, received a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation for being primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning budget.

The FY 2014/15 Budget has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program.

Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.

“Castaic Lake Water Agency is honored to have earned the GFOA Distinguished Budget Award for the ninth consecutive year.  This award-winning document not only outlines our strategic plan for the fiscal year, but demonstrates our financial transparency and commitment to most cost-effectively and efficiently provide an increasingly valuable resource to the Santa Clarita Valley,” said CLWA General Manager Dan Masnada. “This is of the utmost importance to CLWA – especially during this prolonged extreme drought – and we are proud to present this very important publication to our community.”

The GFOA is a major professional association serving the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.

The association is headquartered in Chicago, IL with offices in Washington, D.C.

About the Castaic Lake Water Agency:

The Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA) is the Santa Clarita Valley’s public water wholesaler. CLWA is one of 29 State Water Project contractors and receives water imported from northern California and Kern County through the California Aqueduct.

CLWA operates two large treatment plants, three major pump stations, three water storage facilities and over 45 miles of large diameter transmission pipelines delivering water to four local water retailers.

The mission is to provide reliable, quality water at a reasonable cost to the Santa Clarita Valley.
