City of Santa Clarita officials are hosting an open house event Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. for residents and businesses to inform them about the development of the Enhanced Watershed Plan.
The event is taking place at the Old Town Newhall Library and free to the public, officials said.
Attendees will be informed of the concepts for the plan that will outline potential projects and programs that have been designed to reduce pollution entering in the storm drains leading to the Santa Clara River.

“Were looking to the public to one, start the conversation with us about what they’d like to see and to continue the conversation over the next 12-24 months,”said Heather Miranda, of the city’s Environmental Services Division.
The officials plan to highlight the water quality standards imposed by the state, as well as potential locations of the projects outlined and the stakeholders involvement to determine the next steps.
“We have an enormous number of pollutants that the state is regulating us on and we really need to figure out good ways for us to not only to improve the quality of water but do lots of different things with projects to improve our water supply,” Miranda said.
On July 9, 2013, the Santa Clarita City Council authorized city staff to develop an Enhanced Watershed Management Plan and Coordinated Integrated Monitoring Plan to comply with the Stormwater Permit. The action also authorized an agreement with Los Angeles County to collaborate on plan development and share costs.
