The state has required NCWD cut its water use by 28 percent through February 2016.

“July is among the hottest, most water-intense months of the year, but our residents and businesses hit their mark,” said Steve Cole, NCWD’s General Manager. “We had a little help from some rain, but our customers did a great job cutting back water use. Our focus is now moving to sustaining this mentality throughout the year.”

July’s conservation follows two strong months of conservation, which averaged roughly 30 percent in June and May.

Conservation through Empowerment

The District has continued its education-first approach to conservation through the summer. The central tool to this effort is a water efficiency target that provides customers a goal, and then empowers them with data and tools to reach that target.

Yard signs, the District’s mobile app, direct mail, canvassing and door-hangers are just a few other ways the District has engaged its customers to save water.

“We believe that empowering our customers with information is the most effective way to save water,” continued Cole. “Right now, their successful and extraordinary conservation is proving that this is the right approach.”
