SCV Fishing Report April 17th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

It’s time for the KHTS fishing report:

Freshwater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake…. The big news here is the wide open action for spawning largemouth bass!  The bass are stacking up in the shallow water all over the lake.  Catch and release is encouraged….  For catfish, try Kong Island or the deep water off the Buoy Line.  Try the West Ramp for a chance at catching some trout.

2)  Pyramid Lake….Bass galore!  Largemouth, smallmouth and black bass are all moving into the shallow water to spawn, and they are biting!  Striped bass fishin has also improved with better weather; they’re chasing the bait schools.  For trout, try the Dam or Spanish Point.  If you want catfish, try fishing the coves.|

3)  Lake Piru….The bluegill and redear are beginning to bite here.  But, the crappie fishing has been outstanding!  The bass bite continued to be good  in the shallow water, when weather permitted.

4)  Lake Cachuma….The Trout Derby this past weekend saw many limits and near limits of trout for anglers!  Also, the largemouth bass bite is pretty much wide open in the shallows all over the lake.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
On Sunday, with blue skies, the 3/4 day boat “Enterprise” from Long Beach Marina scored limits of salmon grouper plus 89 red snapper, 220 rockfish and 126 sculpin. Also, on Sunday the “Native Sun” from Long Beach Sportfishing, on it’s twilight trip, brought in 73 sand bass along with 13 sculpin.  Very good reports for Redondo and Marina Del Rey anglers, as well.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
At Channel Islands Sportfishing in Oxnard,  the fast and roomy  “Speed Twin” on it’s 1/2 day run caught 435 rockish for it’s 45 anglers.  Meanwhile, on the “Mirage” on it’s overnight outer island run scored 18 lingcod, along with easy limits of assorted rockfish plus 15 ocean whitefish.

…..’til next week, this is Halibut Hal reporting for KHTS-1220AM, your Hometown Station.
