Here is this weeks Halibut Hal fish report for our local lakes, as well as nearby ocean landings for KHTS-1220AM:
The latest freshwater reports are as follows:
1) Castaic Lake….Fair to good trout fishing, thanks to a couple recent trout plants. Try these areas for your best shot at catching some trout: Kong Island, Elizabeth Canyon, West Ramp or Main Ramp. There’s been only a few stripped and largemouth bass caught.
For catfish…try cut baits, late in the day at Necktie Canyon or the buoy line.
2) Pyramid Lake….Lots of wind here lately. Still fair fishing for stripped bass, up to five pounds. The best areas are the Inlet or Marina. Fair bass and bluegill fishing. Still some catfish biting on cut baits.
3) Lake Piru….A few more, real nice four pound sized trout were caught this week. Fair largemouth bass fishing with a few fish caught up to 6.5 pounds! Slower action for crappie and redear.
4) Lake Cachuma….Windy conditions prevailed here. A trout plant is slated for today (12/13)…that will bring better bites for anglers willing to brave the elements. Crappie fishing has been good in the areas of Seder Flats and the Narrows for fish up to 2.5 pounds. The bass are deep (20 – 40 feet) and are tough to catch lately.
Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey: Still plenty of rockfish biting for the last three remaining weeks of rockfish and lingcod season. Limits of rockfish with an assortment of sculpin, lings and sheephead are in a typical burlap sack these days. Get ’em while you can!
Oxnard/Ventura Landings: The 3/4 day and overnight boats are getting full limits. The “Aloha Spirit” with 23 anglers caught two lings apiece plus 10 rockfish each, on Saturdays trip. The “Mirage’ on both Saturday and Sunday trips this weekend… got full limits of both ling cod and rockfish (mostly red snappers). In addition, there’s been a few ocean whitefish, sheephead and cabezon and sculpin.
…until next week, this is Halibut Hal signing off for 1220-AM KHTS – your Hometown Station.
