SCV Fishing Report December 7th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

FishingReport-SidebarIt’s Tuesday and that can mean only one thing……..it’s time for Halibut Hal’s fish report!

Here’s the latest fish reports at our local lakes:
1)  Castaic Lake….It has been a good trout bite following the latest D.F.G. trout plant; try the West and Main Ramp.  Stripped bass are biting  well in  the area of the Dam and West Ramp. Still a few largemouth bass chasing the shad….try early AM or early PM. Try the buoy line for a fair catfish bite on cut baits.
2)  Pyramid Lake….Fair fishing for smaller sized stripped bass; but, there’s also been some larger stripers (chasing trout) caught up to 13 pounds! Try the Marina or Inlet. Some catfish are biting on cut baits.  Fair bass bite. Slow fishing for bluegill.
3)  Lake Piru….A few large rainbow trout up to 4 pounds were caught this week!  Decent action for redear and crappie.
Fair action for small bass of 1-2 pounds; but some up to 7 pounds are also being caught.
4)  Lake Cachuma….Fair trout bite…try the shoreline at Harveys or E Point.  Slow for bluegill and redear sunfish.  A few bass are being caught in deeper 25-40 feet of water.  Much improved crappie bite at the Island or in the Narrows; some anglers are scoring up to 10 crappie.

Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:  Light loads but plenty of fish to be had for anglers willing to brave the cold and wind. Live squid is available.  Biting are an assortment of rockfish, boccacio (salmon grouper), red snapper, sculpin, ocean whitefish, sheeephead, sand bass, perch and sole.  Remember rockfish season ends on December 31.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:  With “mild” Santa Ana conditions, and plentiful supplies of live squid…the overnight boats fishin San Miguel Island have been slaying the red snapper and getting limits of ling cod as well.  Try the “Mirage”,  “Ranger 85”, or the “Pacific Dawn” for the best results. The rest of the fleet has been getting a nice assortment of rockfish, ocean whitefish, sculpin, sheephead, ling cod and cabezon.  Fish taco time!

….well that’s all for now.  Until next week, this is Halibut Hal reporting for your Hometown Station, KHTS-1220AM.
