Freshwater Report:
1) Castaic Lake….The upper lake will receive a DFG trout plant this week. The bite for all species has been on/off because of fluctuations in weather and water temps. Still some good catfishin near the Buoy Line. A very lucky
lady angler nabbed a 10 pound striper this past week!
2) Pyramid Lake….A lot of small striped bass are biting in the deeper water where the bait schools are congregated. Decent trout fishing. Largemouth bass continue to bite in depths of twenty feet or less. Catfish are biting in the Coves; in the deeper depths
3) Lake Piru….A few bass are being caught here in 12 to 30 feet of water. But, other than that, it is few anglers and few reports at this lake.
4) Lake Cachuma….There will be a 4,500 pound DFG trout plant on 4/4 and another on 4/13! Just in time for the Lake Cachuma Trout Derby taking place April 14th and 15th. Currently, the fishing improved here, as the water temperatures increased. Try the 2 to 20 foot depth for bass that are getting ready to spawn.
Saltwater Report:
Landings from Long Beach to MarinaDelRey:
With better weather comes limits or near limits of rockfish including salmon grouper (bocaccio) with a bonus of sculpin and sanddabs. There were no boats fishing on Sunday because of the latest storm.
Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
Easy limits of rockfish is the norm. The “outer island” trips are getting lots of lingcod and ocean whitefish along with quality rockish limits. With no storms predicted for this coming weekend the fishing should be great.
……well, until next week, this is Halibut Hal signing off for your Hometown Station, KHTS-1220AM.
