SCV Fishing Report September 28th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

FishingReport-SidebarHalibut Hal here with this weeks exciting local fresh and saltwater fishing reports for 1220AM-KHTS:

Here’s what’s biting at our local lakes:
1)  Castaic Lake….Wide open striped bass fishin!  These fish are boiling on the surface practically all day long!  Most of the striped bass are in the 2 – 4 pound range with an occasional larger specimen.  What are you waiting for………go get em.  In addition, the catfish are biting pretty good.  Fair to good fishng for largemouth bass and bluegill in most coves.  Slower on the crappie.

2)  Lake Pyramid….Also very good striper fishing here!  These are mostly 1 – 3 pound fish.  The early morning and late afternoon bites seem to be the best time to catch em.  Just follow the boiling fish.  Look for bluegill and catfish in the coves.
3)  Lake Piru….Fair to good bite on both crappie and bluegill.  Fair catfish action in 12 to 30 feet of water.
4)  Lake Cachuma….The bass are moving into the shallow water.  Try early in the morning or late in the day.  Good crappie and bluegill bites this past week.  The catfish bite has been good in the shallow coves.

Saltwater Report:
The humboldt squid action is unbelievable!  As of 9/26,  Davey’s Locker in Newport Beach caught 9,146 giant squid! That’s in only six days of fishing for them!   On Monday night , the Enterprise from Long Beach Marina Sportfishing with 36 anglers caught 720 humboldt squid!…………you say you don’t want no squid……………… well then try the “Island Spirit”  out of Ventura Sportfishing, that’s where on  Monday (9/26) a light load of 8 anglers caught 24 white seabass (limits) plus 16 calico bass and a halibut. That’s a nice, roomy boat and a great  trip for eight anglers.

From Long Beach to Oxnard the fishing has been mostly for rockfish with the usual assortment of sculpin, bass, sheephead, and ocean whitefish.  But the big news has been the invasion of the humboldt squid.

Well, until next week…….this is Halibut Hal signing off for KHTS 1220AM.
