The event, hosted by officials from the city of Santa Clarita and the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, features activities designed to help community members get into “the green spirit” and have fun doing it, event officials said.
“The Earth Arbor Day Festival is an interactive community event promoting the importance of protecting and preserving the environment, while empowering residents with the knowledge and tools necessary to make positive changes throughout the city,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “Community members of all ages can stop by Central Park to browse emerging green technologies and eco-friendly lifestyle solutions to help them go green in their everyday lives.”

Additional activities include lady bug education and collection, guided tours of Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Sustainable Garden and the city’s newly expanded Community Gardens and a crafting booth that shows participants how to do things like make scarves from old t-shirts or bird feeders from Cheerios, event officials said.
City officials are also scheduled to accept Santa Clarita’s 24th consecutive “Tree City USA” award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. In honor of the award, city officials plan to commit to planting more trees throughout the community starting with Central Park, and will be giving away more than 1,000 trees and mulch at the event, according to the news release.
The 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival is scheduled to place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 12 at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
Volunteers are still needed to work at eco booths, help distribute mulch to residents and plant trees at the festival. To sign up to be a volunteer, click here. For more information about the festival, click here.
