Go Green At Santa Clarita’s 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival

The 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival, which encourages Santa Clarita residents to learn how to go green, is scheduled for April 12 at Central Park, city of Santa Clarita officials announced Monday.

The event, hosted by officials from the city of Santa Clarita and the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, features activities designed to help community members get into “the green spirit” and have fun doing it, event officials said. Earth Arbor Day Festival

“The Earth Arbor Day Festival is an interactive community event promoting the importance of protecting and preserving the environment, while empowering residents with the knowledge and tools necessary to make positive changes throughout the city,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “Community members of all ages can stop by Central Park to browse emerging green technologies and eco-friendly lifestyle solutions to help them go green in their everyday lives.”

Activities planned for the day include tree plantings, educational presentations, recycled art exhibits, live music, eco-giveaways, food and more.

Attendees can explore six interactive zones showcasing the importance of keeping the environment clean, including the Tree Zone, Energy Zone, Eco Zone, Water Conservation Zone, Alternative Transportation Zone and Community Organization Zone, according to a news release by the city of Santa Clarita.

Earth Arbor Day FestivalAdditional activities include lady bug education and collection, guided tours of Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Sustainable Garden and the city’s newly expanded Community Gardens and a crafting booth that shows participants how to do things like make scarves from old t-shirts or bird feeders from Cheerios, event officials said.

City officials are also scheduled to accept Santa Clarita’s 24th consecutive “Tree City USA” award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. In honor of the award, city officials plan to commit to planting more trees throughout the community starting with Central Park, and will be giving away more than 1,000 trees and mulch at the event, according to the news release.

The 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival is scheduled to place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 12 at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
