Santa Clarita City Approves Sand Canyon Trail Property Purchase

Adding to the expansive trail areas in the Santa Clarita Valley, City Council officials approved the addition of the Sand Canyon Trail Tuesday near Sand Canyon Road and Lost Canyon Road.

The addition of the property will add to the City’s on-going efforts to increase the multi-use trail along Sand Canyon Road,according to the agenda item. The property is located at 28111 Sand Canyon Road.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $540,000, officials said. The property cost  about $470,000. The total price also includes $20,000 for escrow, title, surveying fees and due diligence costs and $50,000 to remove structures on the property.

The property measures 41,780 square feet, according to the agenda. In 1957, a 2,000-square-foot single family home and two garage buildings were built. Century 21 All Moves officials listed the property and originally offered the sale of the site at $489,999.

Improved pedestrian safety and access to is expected Sulphur Springs Elementary School and Pinecrest School by adding the trail network through the Sand Canyon Road and Lost Canyon Road intersection, officials said. A monument sign or other gateway feature may be included in the project.

“Eventually this will make a beautiful entrance to our Sand Canyon Area,” said Ruthann Levison, communications chair of the Sand Canyon Homeowners Association, in an email. “This will provide a wonderful opportunity for a future trailhead with connections to existing trails and open space in our area.”

Vista Canyon Ranch developers are paying for the project through reimbursements to the city’s general fund. The additional land is expected to the Vista Canyon ranch trail to the Sand Canyon trail.
