The 2015 Earth Arbor Day Festival is expected to be held at 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11 at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
The city’s FREE Earth Arbor Day Festival will include a variety of activities designed to get community members excited about eco-friendly living, including tree plantings, educational presentations by local organizations, healthy food for sale, recycled art exhibits, live music and much more.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore six interactive zones highlighting the importance of protecting the environment, including Alternative Transportation, Community Organizations, Tree Zone, Energy Zone, Eco Zone and Water Conservation Zone.
Other festival activities include solar energy cooking, where residents can eat chocolate chip cookies cooked by the sun, a crafting booth where participants can make scarves and bracelets from old t-shirts, and lady bug education and collection. Families can also enjoy guided tours of Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Sustainable Garden and the city’s newly expanded Community Gardens. Several recycled art exhibits will be on display including submissions to the city’s annual “cArt aRt” competition which allows residents to decorate curbside recycling bins with eco-friendly materials.
This year, the city of Santa Clarita celebrates its 25th consecutive Tree City USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. In honor of this prestigious award, the city will give away free one-gallon trees and mulch at the event.
Several volunteer opportunities are available for the festival, including planting and tagging trees, assisting with activity booths and helping to distribute mulch. Interested participants can register to volunteer at the website.
