“We are very excited to partner with Newhall Land to open Santa Clarita’s 30th park,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean. “River Village Park will offer a gorgeous new space for residents to take their children to play, as well as a new trailhead with convenient connections to hiking and biking trails.”
River Village Park is located off of Newhall Ranch Road, near the intersection of Santa Clarita Parkway and Riverrock Way.
The River Village Housing development needed to build a park in order to get approval from the city’s housing development, an official said.
“The 29-acre park will consist of a 5-acre developed park site that features a themed play area, a place for people to picnic and walking trails,” said Gail Morgan, city spokeswoman. “It will also have 24 acres of passive open space for the new River Village community.”
The park’s new trailhead connects with Central Park via the Santa Clara River Trail, according to a press release. The trailhead includes a bike rack, drinking fountain and trail map to help residents easily access local trails and the short connection to Central Park.
“The mission for this park is to have a healthy, vibrant and active community,” Morgan said. “This high quality park will result in outdoor activity and connectivity.”
The ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for River Village Park is free and open to the public. To RSVP, please contact Jessica Thompson at (661) 255-4939 or jethompson@santa-clarita.com.
