Knitting hands were busy at the SCV Senior Center, making 200 hats for families served by the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer.
The hats were included in the second annual Holiday Hat Drive conducted by Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
In the last two years, Eternal Valley has collected more than 1,200 hats from residents, community groups and businesses and donated them to the foundation for distribution.

“It’s our hope and prayer that one day a cure for cancer and the many other illnesses that affect our family and friends will be found,” said Steven G. Mahrle, funeral arranger at Eternal Valley. “Our hope is that by collecting and delivering these hats, local children who may lose their hair due to cancer treatments will gain warmth, comfort, courage and strength.”
The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for children’s cancer is a public non-profit foundation that provides financial and emotional support to children and their families in the Santa Clarita and surrounding valleys. The organization strives to educate the public and provide grant funding for innovative research to accelerate progress in the fight against pediatric cancer.
