King was invited to speak at the high school by the Black Student Union Club. Her speech is set to cover the civil rights movement from past to present.

After her speech, King plans to be available to answer questions from students.

While all Golden Valley High classes have been invited for the speech, AP testing is also planned for that day, impacting the ability of some students to attend.

King is a pastor and Fox News contributor, where she has occasionally spoken in support of President Trump, for whom she voted, according to Fox News.

The daughter of Rev. A.D. King, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s younger brother, Alveda King has spent much of her life working as an anti-abortion activist, which she says is an extension of the civil rights movement started by her uncle.

King currently serves as director of African American Outreach for Gospel of Life, a pro-life ministry.

Due to the nature of her work and her endorsement of President Trump, King has drawn criticism from some liberals, including accusations that she is going against the teachings of her famous uncle.

The former Georgia state representative was only 12 years old when her family home in Birmingham was bombed, followed by her father’s church office in Louisville, Kentucky.

King was 17 when her uncle, the civil rights icon, was murdered in Memphis, Tennessee. Only 15 months later, her father was found dead in their family pool. While the official cause of death was drowning, King said she believes that her father was murdered.

“When they pulled the body out, they began to pump his chest, but no water came out. One of the emergency people said he was dead when he hit the water,” said the young King.

Despite the hardships of her life, including the deaths of three siblings from heart attacks, King says that she lives her life focused on love.

King constantly quotes her uncle when appearing on Fox News segments, saying, “We must learn to live together as brothers — and I would add, as sisters — or perish together as fools.”
