American Red Cross Assists Victim of House Fire

On Tuesday, March 1, 2005, Disaster Action Team volunteers from the Santa Clarita Service Center of the American Red Cross, came to the aid of a gentleman whose garage apartment was completely destroyed in a fire on Monday morning.  He had no place to live and lost all of his belongings.

Volunteers drove into the Angeles National forest, crossing a stream in their 4-wheel drive to reach the site of the fire.  After meeting with the displaced occupant and determining his needs, arrangements were made for temporary lodging, food and clothing.

It is the mission of the American Red Cross to provide short-term assistance to victims of fires, floods, earthquakes and other disasters.

The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles works continuously to be prepared to respond to house and apartment fires.  Local volunteers form Disaster Action Teams that are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  All services are provided at no charge.  To become a Disaster Action Volunteer, or to make a donation, please call the American Red Cross at (661) 259-1805.
