Arrest of Suspects of Newborn Homicide
A May 16 tip from a resident of the Polynesian Mobile Home Park led to the arrest of a 22-year-old woman and her boyfriend, also residents of the park, suspected in the May 2nd homicide of a newborn baby girl.
The tipster came forward after hearing publicity generated from the Santa Clarita City Council $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible party. The City Council authorized the reward at its meeting on May 9th.
"The City Council took this matter very seriously and we are hopeful that it will lead to closure in this tragic and horrific crime," said Mayor Laurene Weste.
Jaquelin Linaras, 22, and boyfriend Jose De La Cruz, 42, were arrested after Sheriff’s Deputies served a search warrant at their residence.
In November of 1996, City Council formally adopted a reward policy. Since then, the city has offered rewards to assist the Sheriff’s Department with solving crimes in particular cases. The reward money comes from the Council Contingency Account with the City of Santa Clarita.
