In partnership with KHTS AM-1220, City of Santa Clarita officials will provide vouchers for free local rides aboard the Santa Clarita Transit throughout the day to all SCV residents who fill out a Dump the Pump pledge form online.Celebrate Dump The Pump Day in Santa Clarita With Free Local Bus Rides

“We are partnering with KHTS AM-1220 on a promotion to encourage folks to leave their cars at home and ride local public transportation for the day,” said Patrick Bryant of the City of Santa Clarita. “So literally dump that gas pump and hop aboard a local bus.”

In addition to free local rides aboard the Santa Clarita Transit, participants will also be entered into a raffle to win prizes like monthly bus passes, an annual pass and theme park tickets, Bryant added.

“This is a very exciting promotion,” he said. “The sky is the limit– you can really take the bus anywhere you want to go within the valley and it’s a great, efficient, cost-effective way to do so.”

While this is the first time City officials are offering a promotion for Dump the Pump Day in Santa Clarita, the “Santa Clarita Beach Bus” returned to the SCV June 6 with expanded services, according to Bryant.

The Beach Bus is using two routes to take SCV residents to Santa Monica on Saturdays and Sundays, leaving Santa Clarita around 8:30 a.m. and departing from Santa Monica at 4:30 p.m.

“In the past we had done the two routes on Saturday but did the condensed route on Sunday,” Bryant said. “But the service is so popular, we’re bringing even more to the public.”

The cost to ride is $3 each way, with tickets for seniors and disabled persons available at $1.50 each way.

“It definitely beats the cost of parking and the hassle of driving,” Bryant said.

City officials are also encouraging residents who want to stay the night in Santa Monica to do so.

“Some folks even take advantage of the two-day service by staying overnight on Saturday and coming back on Sunday,” Bryant said. “We’re very much encouraging that if you want to stay and have a good time, do a little beaching, do a little shopping.”

The Beach Bus drops riders off at the beach located next to 2nd and 3rd Street Promenade, where visitors can shop, and Pacific Park.

The Beach Bus is expected to run every Saturday and Sunday through September 6. Pick-up and drop-off information is available online.
