The Hispanic Business Committee of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the Hispanic Business Committee (HBC) Scholarship Program. This will be the second year the HBC has awarded scholarships to students in the Santa Clarita Valley. Dora Zavala, 2006 Chair of the Hispanic Business Committee remarked “the passion and dedication to help Hispanic students with further education is a key goal of the committee”. The scholarship funds have increased as a result of the committee’s successful Excelencia Awards Gala, held last fall at the Valencia Hyatt. “I am so appreciative to all who supported the committee’s Gala, but I’m especially grateful to our event sponsor, Chiquita Canyon Landfill”, expressed Dora Zavala. The Excelencia Gala Event Chair, Kathleen Sturkey, promises an even greater event this year and aims to continue to increase funds towards scholarship recipients next year.
The amount of each scholarship is $750.00 which is being offered to one student from each of the following schools: Valencia High, Saugus High, Hart High, Canyon High and Bowman. For students who are interested, they must fill out the Hispanic Business Committee Scholarship Application, which can be picked up at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce or downloaded at www.scvchamber.com/hbc.php . Sergio Ibarra, Chair of Hispanic Business Committee Scholarship Program, stated, “To ensure all applications receive full consideration, it is crucial that it be filled out completely and submitted back to the Chamber by the deadline – March 31, 2006. HBC wishes the best of luck and success to all Class of 2006 students in the Santa Clarita Valley!”
