November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month, and while all adoption–related issues are important, this month takes time to focus on children that are currently in foster care. Helping finds these children permanent homes is the main priority for the month of November.

The Children’s Bureau believes that every child deserves a safe and loving family that can provide children a permanent home. Every child should feel like they belong somewhere, including children in foster care, and the Children’s Bureau encourages families to find and adopt these children.

Children’s Bureau also invites individuals and couples to become Resource Families to care specifically for children during the reunification process with their parents. Families who have the willingness, ability and resources to care for teenagers, older children and sibling sets are also invited.

The monthly information meeting for those interested in learning more is on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10:00 a.m.to noon at the Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 222, College of the Canyons, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.

Children’s Bureau encourages individuals (single or married), who are interested in helping children find the love, stability and support a family can provide, to contact Children’s Bureau. Qualifying families receive training, certification, and support. For more information, call (661) 208-4212, (661) 272-9996 or visit the website www.all4kids.org

Children’s Bureau, established in 1904 to protect children, began providing adoption services in the 1940’s in response to the increased need of finding homes for World War II refugee children and war orphans.

Today, we help 500 at-risk children in caring foster homes and finalize over 100 adoptions each year. For 110 years, Children’s Bureau has been a nonprofit leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. More than 28,000 children and families are helped each year throughout Southern California with services that include school readiness, parenting classes, family resource centers, support groups, mental health counseling, foster care, foster-adoption and more.

This information has been provided to KHTS AM-1220 through a Children’s Bureau Family Foster Care and Adoption press release.
