The VitalExpressCenterfor the Performing Arts at College of the Canyons is providing plenty of opportunities for entertainment this holiday season.On Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. the center will present the Choir of the Canyons Concert, a joyous and rhythmic concert featuring four vocal ensembles, a piano bass and drum jazz trio.The holiday concert will resound with rhythmic exploration and feature carols from around the world. “The concert will bring a great deal of excitement to the audience,” said choral director JulieLawson.Lawson, who earned her master’s degree in piano performance from Cal State Northridge, accompanied the Cal Arts Chorus and the College of the Canyons Festival Choir for five years before becoming the choral director at College of The Canyons in 1996. “The music that will be featured places an emphasis on asymmetrical rhythms combined with playful melodies and will show precision and energy in the songs,” she said.“The evening will open with a gorgeous setting of ‘Ave Maria’ by Franz Biebl and end with a rousing gospel number.” Those in attendance will hear carols from , and and madrigals from and , as well as exciting, up-tempo jazz numbers accompanied by the COC jazz trio.
