According to the College of the Canyons website, the MakerSpace combines manufacturing equipment, community and education for the purposes of enabling community members to design, prototype and create manufactured works that wouldn’t be possible to create with the resources available to individuals working alone.
These spaces can take the form of individuals sharing a space and tools, for-profit companies, nonprofit corporations, or organizations affiliated with or hosted within schools, universities or libraries, all aiming to provide resources to the community and inspire creativity.
The MakerSpace concept is fairly new but those already in existence have began to produce projects which have had a significant impact, according to school officials.
