Santa Clarita Councilman Bob Kellar is prepared to be the butt of all the jokes as the roastee of the 16th Annual Elks Charity Roast benefitting Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers.
Kellar has served as the event’s master of ceremonies in the recent past, but this year’s Roast on March 8 at the Elks Lodge will put Kellar in the hot seat for the first time in several years.

“I was the first roastee sixteen years ago,” Kellar said. “The Elks Lodge and Samuel Dixon approached me about doing it again this year since it’s been a while.”
“I feel very strongly about the Samuel Dixon Centers and the great work they do,” he added, noting that he has supported many of the organization’s fundraisers over the years, including the Samuel Dixon Annual Rubber Ducky Festival.
This year’s roasters include former City Manager Ken Pulskamp, Steve Arklin of Rancho Deluxe Filming Locations, SCV Chamber of Commerce Board Member Fred Arnold and Don Fleming of Valencia Acura.
“The four seemed way too anxious to be involved,” Kellar said.
But Kellar remained good humored about the impending Roast, which he assured will be a fun event.
“I like to see people laugh,” Kellar added. “Whenever I put a smile on someone’s face, that’s never a bad thing.”
Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers operates three health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley: Canyon Country Health Center, Val Verde Health Center and Newhall Health Center, as well as outreach sites at College of the Canyons and California Institute of the Arts. SDFHC offers a full range of health care services-physicals, immunizations and vaccines, screenings and diagnostic tests, well baby care, and family planning. Patients pay based on their income. This past year, SDFHC provided service for 11,000 patient visits.

All proceeds from the event will toward Samuel Dixon and their goal of helping uninsured and underinsured patients in the Santa Clarita Valley. This year, they will designate the money to build a new facility in Canyon Country.
Kellar guarantees a good time and encourages everyone to attend. He expects a great turn out, he said.
“I know there’ll be a lot of fun, and we’ll be raising important money for the Sam Dixon Health Centers,” said Kellar. “The Roast has always been a fun event, and this year will be no different.”
Whole table and sponsorship packages for the event are available for $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000.
