Dancing With Our Stars features dancers, or community volunteers, who represent various Santa Clarita Valley nonprofits, which compete to see which nonprofit can raise the most money, with the proceeds going to the nonprofit.
Domestic Violence Center officials are hosting a pre-party Saturday, July 18, from 7-11 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, with dance lessons and dance party fun included in the cost of admission, officials said.
“Your ‘dance ticket’ comes with dancing lessons in a variety of genres. We’ll have country line dancing, hip hop and a Latin tutorial and all will be taught by professionals from several different local dance studios,” said Linda Davies, executive director for the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley.
“It’s a great way to get out and meet people, have fun and support a great cause,” Davies said, noting the Domestic Violence Center and the shelter are the only 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week resource for those in domestic violence situation in need of help.
A raffle will also take place at the dance party, with opportunities to win a variety of prizes from local businesses.
Tickets are $25. The event is located at 17766 Sierra Hwy, Canyon Country.
Anyone who would like to get involved with the event or support the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley should call 661-259-8175.
The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley is headquartered at 23780 Newhall Ave., and also operates an off-site facility for those seeking shelter from domestic violence. DVC officials work to break the cycle of abuse with crisis intervention, counseling and support groups.
