The Santa Clarita Valley Rotary and Elks at Elks Lodge are sponsoring a closed luncheon for the 78 veteran families at Center Pointe Parkway.

The event is set to take place Saturday, October 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. along with an Elks Rummage Sale that is open to the public.

Santa Clarita City Councilmember Bob Kellar will be a guest speaker at the luncheon to talk about the Elks and to inform the veterans about the city.

There are half a dozen mentors who meet monthly with the veterans to provide guidance on finding jobs and assisting them with veterans benefits.

“I am very proud to be of help to the veterans and welcome them into our community,” said Jim Lentini, a mentor of the veterans.

Few veterans lived in the Santa Clarita Valley before they were qualified to move into the Habitat for Humanity housing, according to officials, so this luncheon is important for the veterans to learn different things about the city.

“All of us who are veterans want to help those who just got out of the service,” said Ted Olsen, Elk veteran mentor.

The veteran lunch will be served by the Santa Clarita Elks Barbeque Team with welcome addresses from the Santa Clarita Elks, the City of Santa Clarita and the Veteran Mentors.
