History channels Behind-the-scenes Da Vinci to be shown at COC

There will be a sneak preview of a History Channel special at the fifth annual College of the Canyons student holiday art exhibition and sale from Nov. 30 through Dec. 10 in the college’s art gallery. "We have a marvelous opportunity to be partnering with The History Channel to present the continuous showing of the Behind-the-Scenes Making of ‘Da Vinci and the code he lived by,’" said gallery director Joanne Julian. This unique 20-minute glimpse precedes the premier of the upcoming Da Vinci special on the History Channel, airing at 9 p.m./8 central on Sunday, Dec. 4, when millions of US households will get a closer look at the man, the legend and the myth who has inspired centuries of envy, inspiration and speculation. To make this festive holiday treat complete, The History Channel will sponsor and welcome visitors to both of these events with a wine and cheese reception which will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. on Nov. 29 in the COC art gallery. Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to join in the festivities, view the film and begin their holiday shopping. Sales will benefit both student artists and "Friends of the Fine Arts," the college foundation support group.  The exhibition and sale will include art works from across the creative disciplines. "I am always impressed with the quality and uniqueness of student art," says Sue Bozman, director of public information at the college.  "As we head toward the holiday gift-giving season, this exhibition and sale provides a unique opportunity to view and purchase truly one-of-a-kind gifts and support good causes at the same time," added Bozman. Holiday gifts purchased from the gallery store benefit the exhibition programs.  The college art gallery and store is open to the public from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.  The gallery is closed Sunday, Monday, Friday and all college holidays.  The gallery is located in the Media and Fine Arts building on campus. Admission to the reception and gallery showing is free.  A $1 parking permit may be obtained from the machines in the south parking lot and in lot #6.  Attendees may park in any regular parking space in the student lots.
